Two Pulsars, at last

For a long time, my main YW Pulsar has had to serve two purposes.

It was my instrument, of course.

But at times, it also became the instrument I would place in front of someone else — a client, a visitor, a curious pair of hands.

Which, in many ways, is a beautiful thing.

These instruments invite touch. They invite listening. They invite a person to come closer.

And yet, I have also learnt, rather painfully, that my own performing instrument needs a certain boundary around it.

Some time ago, there was an unfortunate accident involving one of my instruments. The result was not only damage to the instrument itself, but also a period in which I could no longer continue my own performance activities as I normally would.

That was difficult.

Not dramatic in the theatrical sense, perhaps — but quietly, practically, and personally difficult.

Since then, I have been hoping to separate these two roles more clearly:

one set for clients, exploration, and therapeutic work

and one set for my own practice and performance.

Now, at last, that is becoming possible.

Soon, I will have two chromatic sets of YW Pulsars.

And I cannot quite describe how relieved I feel.

It means that if something unexpected happens, my whole schedule does not have to collapse with it.It means I can offer people the experience of these instruments with more freedom. It means my own instrument can remain my own instrument.

That feels both joyful and very reassuring.

When the new set arrives, I would love to introduce it here properly.

So — watch this space. ;-)
